    Staying safe online

    • How much stuff should I tell people about myself?

You never really know who you're talking to on the web. Don't give out any information you wouldn't be comfortable with a stranger knowing – this includes your address, phone number, birth date, email address, bank and credit card details, and place of work. To find out more about the information we collect from you, take a look at the ASOS Privacy Policy.

    • Is it okay to meet up with my friends from ASOS Fashion Finder?

We don't recommend meeting people who you only know online. However, if you choose to meet with someone, try and take a friend with you, agree to meet in a public place, and tell friends and family exactly where you're going and what time you expect to return.

    • What if I get an abusive message?

Abusive messages whether from strangers or people you know are not tolerated on ASOS Fashion Finder. If you receive an objectionable message, even if it is sent as a private message, please don't respond to it. Tell us about it by clicking the 'Report It' button and our moderation team will look at it and take the appropriate action.

    • I've seen something on the site I'm not sure about …

    • I've never shopped at ASOS. Can I still take part in ASOS Fashion Finder?

Absolutely. We'd love you to become involved. You can register through Facebook Connect or sign up directly; then you're ready to start uploading images and creating outfits.

    • What does it mean to validate my email address?

We have put this process in place for your protection; it proves that you are who you say you are. When you sign up, we send an email to the email address you provided. When you click on the link we receive a confirmation, if the link isn't showing on the email please copy and paste the url into the address bar and this will work as well. Once you've done this, you can publish content, vote and make comments.

    • I'm already an ASOS.com customer ... What do I need to do?

You will need to set up a new account with ASOS Fashion Finder. We thought it was best to keep your community profile separate to your confidential ASOS account information. If you sign up through Facebook Connect, it's a really quick, one click sign on (after your initial registration). Alternatively you can register directly with ASOS Fashion Finder.

    • I'm having problems registering. What do I do?

We're sorry to hear that. Contact Fashion Finder Help and we'll sort it out for you.

    • How do I log in?

Why not make logging in really quick and easy and register with Facebook Connect. If you don't have Facebook or would just prefer to sign up directly, this is ok too.

Click on the 'Sign In' link at the top right-hand corner of any page and enter your email address and password, then click 'sign-in'. Only select 'remember me' if you are not using a public computer.

    • If I sign up via Facebook, can I also sign in directly?

Yes you can. Facebook connect is a quick one-click method of signing in, but if you want to set up a password against your account you can do this too. When you've signed up through Facebook Connect, just visit your profile page and assign a password to your account in the 'Edit My Info' section. Once you've done this, you can sign in through either Facebook or direct methods.

    • What do I do if I've forgotten my password?

If you can't remember your password, click the 'Get My Password' button on the login form, type your email address in the text box and click 'Submit'. We'll send you an email to remind you what your password is.

You can change your password, your email address or any of your other details at any time just by visiting your profile page and clicking on the 'Edit My Info' button.

If you are still having problems signing in, or have any other queries, please contact Fashion Finder Help.

    My ASOS Fashion Finder profile

    • Where's my profile located? I can't find it!

Click on the 'My Account' link in the top right corner of the site and you'll be whisked away to your profile page. If you haven't signed in, you'll be asked to sign in either by Facebook Connect or with your email and password.

    • How can I edit my profile?

You can decide how much you share and how much you keep private. We'd love to get to know you a bit more, so feel free to complete the fields in the 'Edit Profile' section of your account. When you've signed in, go to your account page and click on the 'Edit Profile' link by your name and profile picture. This will take you to a page where you can personalise your profile, adjust your privacy settings and set your communications preferences. You can also change your profile picture here.

Don't forget to customise your fashion wall as this will let other members know a bit about yourself and your personal style. This is your chance to make a statement about your fashions loves and bring your personality to the fore.

    • How can I change my profile picture?

You can change your profile picture as often as you like in the 'Edit Profile' section of your account page. First, you need to decide on your picture and save it as a JPEG, GIF or PNG file (no larger than 2MB in size) on your computer. Click the 'Choose File' button to select the picture you'd like to represent you on ASOS Fashion Finder.

    • What if I want to keep my profile private?

Some elements of your profile will be visible to everyone, such as your screen name, your profile pic and your list of friends. This is so that people can find you easily. All other personal information is kept private. You can choose to disclose your country and town of residence, and whether you share your creations and uploads.

To change your privacy settings, go to 'Edit Profile' in your account and scroll about ¾ of the way down the page. Remember to click the save button if you change any of your settings.

Note that outfits and looks can be individually made public or private, simply by locking or unlocking them on your 'outfits' and 'looks' tabs. Locked means it is private and only visible to you. Unlocked means your outfit can appear in all of the public areas.

    • Where will my outfits and looks appear if I save them as public?

Your outfits are likely to appear in the following places:

      • Home page if it is selected by the Fashion Finder Editors.
      • Community - most popular pages if it receives lots of love.
      • Community - most recent. Outfits will appear here straight away and looks will appear as soon as they have been approved by the moderating team.
      • Themed pages - if you have added tags your content will appear under the relevant sections.
      • Features pages - if your outfits and looks are tagged appropriately they may be selected by the Fashion Finder Editors to support the editorial.
      • On your member profile.

    • How do I change my password / username?

Currently we don't allow you to change your username – sorry about that, you're stuck with it! You can change your password, main email address or any of your other details at any time in 'Edit Profile' as above.

    Making friends

    • How do I make friends with someone?

Whenever you're looking at outfits, looks or videos created by other members, simply click on their screen-name or picture. This will take you to their profile page where there is a link enabling you to add them as a friend.

If you click on the Members tab in the menu bar, you can browse the new or most popular sections for members you might want to connect with. Or if you're looking for someone specific try using the free text search box or browsing alphabetically.

    • What does being a 'friend' involve?

Social networking on ASOS Fashion Finder allows you to connect with and make friends with other users. Your friends' activity will appear in the mini-feed on your profile page to keep you up-to-date with the goings-on in their world.

    • What if I don't want to be friends with someone any more?

If you feel your friendship is so last-season, just click on the 'Remove from friends' link when you visit their profile page. Don't worry, we won't tell them they have been dropped.

    Communicating

    • How can I communicate with people on Fashion Finder?

You don't need to give up your personal contact details to communicate directly with other members on ASOS Fashion Finder. To contact another member you can visit their profile page and click on the 'Send Message' link in the details section on the left. If this link doesn't appear, it probably means that the member has disabled this functionality from their account and only allows their friends to message them.

    • How do I know if someone has messaged me?

On your profile page there is a 'You have a message' icon that will appear in the top right corner next to your points total. This alerts you if there are unread messages waiting for you. You can either click straight on this button or you can click on the messages tab below.

    • What do I do if someone's written something nasty to me?

Please alert a Moderator to personal insults or any form of bullying by clicking on the "Report" button. Even if an abusive message is sent privately, moderators at ASOS Fashion Finder can still intervene and take appropriate action.

    Tagging content

    • What's a tag?

Tags are a simple way of making content easy to navigate through. Just think of a tag as a keyword or a label that groups things together to make them easy to find. Tags are very useful to classify your outfits, looks and videos into trends or themes that relate to key editorial pieces and popular topics of conversation.

If you tag your outfits and looks with relevant themes, it is possible they will be pulled into the key editorial pieces. You may even get the number one slot. It also means that your content will be found by more users; and the more people who see and like your creations the more points you'll earn in the long run. However, it is important to note that the tags should be relevant; it is counter-productive to tag your content with lots of meaningless tags which won't earn you any popularity points at all.

    • Where do I add tags to my content?

You get the opportunity to add tags to outfits you created when you click save. Just choose from the drop down list and click on the tag you want to add. To remove it again just click the x beside the tag name.

When you upload a look or add a video you can add tags at this stage.

If you want to add or amend tags to existing content, you can do this by clicking the 'Edit Details' link on the main outfit or look page.

    • Can I create my own tags?

You can't create a new tag. It is important that your content can be easily found by other users, and if there are too many tags or tags that are very similar to each other, this makes it more difficult for people to find things. Therefore the ASOS Fashion Finder team keeps control of the number of tags generated and ensures they are relevant to the types of themes that our users are currently searching for.

You can suggest tags to us by clicking the Suggest a Tag link which generates an email. We will contact you when the new tag has been created and you can attach it to your creation.

Tips for getting your content noticed

    • Outfits

      • Create your outfit around a clear theme or idea – check out the current features or available tags to get some inspiration.
      • Give your outfit a title and a short description.
      • Use good quality product images and don't blow them up too big so they become blurry.
      • Keep the content clean and uncluttered so that users can see the components of the outfit easily
      • Make sure some of your items are available to buy in the shop – the more useful your style suggestions are the more people will appreciate them.
      • Apply personal touches such as extra images you have uploaded that blend with the theme of your creation.
      • Tag your outfit with themes, celebrities, events or designer inspiration tags that represent what you have created.
      • Make friends in the community and make sure you vote and comment on other people's content. Giving your support back to members who admire your work helps to improve your own status.
      • Once you've published an outfit you can't change it, so if you're unsure you can always save it as a draft first and publish it later. However, you can change details such as the description and tags after publishing.
    • Looks

      • Upload photos of yourself to demonstrate your style credentials. The community loves to see street style images of other members. A lookbook of stylish shots will really boost your fashion credibility in the community.
      • Give your look a title and a description.
      • Tag your look with the appropriate trend tags.
      • Upload good quality images that are not too small – the largest size is 380 x 570 pixels and images become blurry if they have to be expanded too much. Please also note that the images are standard portrait format, so the uploader will automatically crop and resize your image to fit.
      • Create an outfit to match the theme of the look; this will give other users a clue where to buy items to achieve it.
      • If you have uploaded a look of a celebrity you admire, please make sure you give credit to the site or photographer that you got the image from. We can't guarantee that this will prevent a copyright challenge, but it might help – people are usually more obliging if credit is given where credit is due.
      • Looks are not instantly visible online; they go through a moderation process first before they are published. The Fashion Finder team will try to get these up as quickly as possible.
