Meet Our Spotlight

Grunge was the official dress code of the '90s, with denim, Dr. Martens and tartan as synonymous with the decade as Nirvana, Luke Perry (of original 90210 fame) and Kate Moss. Fast forward 20 years and like Kate-the-great, it's as popular as ever, which brings us to this week's Spotlight, SaraLuxe. Clearly a '90s girl at heart, her closet brims with retro-inspired pieces that hail back to musical legends of the recent past; and even though her sartorial inspiration comes from tunes of a bygone era, her style feels totally current.

I am awkward

It was a cold day and I needed warmth more than anything. Thankfully, I can't do anything other than layer, so throwing on all manner of textures and lengths is my usual style anyway. As the sky was so bleak, I desperately wanted to add some colour to the look; I love how this olive green knitted hat and cranberry snood adds a flavoursome pop.

Quilted Jacket at Far Fetch: The shape of this jacket is incredible and the padded detail gives it a classic designer edge.

Destuz T-shirt Dress at ASOS: I am a massive fan of loose relaxed silhouettes, so this is the perfect example of a wardrobe staple.

Crochet Dress at ASOS: Summer dressing can be difficult as I dislike bright colours, but this crochet dress fits my love of whimsical 70’s shapes.

Q & A:

What are your wardrobe workhorses?

I tend to incorporate at least one of my ‘saviour’ items in every outfit. I am undoubtedly a creature of habit and work my Dr Martens, oversized tank tops, brogues, faux fur & leather jackets to the bone.

Best blogger reads?

For blogs I like individuality, Fashion Grunge, Bleach Black and Le-Happy always have fresh and interesting posts.

Style admiration?

I'm heavily influenced by music, so people like Siouxsie Sioux, Debbie Harry, John Lennon, Buddy Holly and Alison Mosshart. I think men’s fashion can be just as inspirational as women’s.

Dream trolley-dash?

Noel Fielding. Yes he often looks like her got dressed straight from a Theatre prop box, but our mutual love of black, faux fur and vintage t-shirts makes him my ideal wardrobe companion.
